Remember What It Is All About

You have already heard something to the effect…only twenty-eight shopping days until Christmas. It is a not so subtle reminder from the business world that we need to go out and spend, spend, spend. After all, isn’t that what Christmas is all about? Going out and buying that perfect gift to show our love for that “whoever”? Let me remind you again today. Remember what Christmas is all about. His name is JESUS.

Now do not get me wrong. I love the many things about Christmas time. I love the lights, the brisk air and the bustle of activity. I love the getting together with family, friends, associates, as so many seem to get in a not so guarded mood and actually become friendly. The beautiful songs, the special food, the decorations, the days off, the joy in the faces of children, the old Christmas movies and so much more that the list could go on and on. That is why it is so easy to forget the purpose of the holiday. It is about JESUS.

Two thousand years ago Jesus was born into a less populated slower paced world than where we are today. Those people were the same in the fact that they needed a savior. Yet many were so caught up in the daily affairs of life that they neglected the Messiah when He was right there with them. Christmas is the time set aside to remember the birth of our Savior. Let us not get so busy celebrating the “event” that we fail to celebrate the “Sent”. What a great time to get to know Him better. Take time to remember Him this holiday season. Let Luke 2:1-20 be a story told in your house and to your neighbors and friends this next month. Be faithful to God in your giving of time, effort and finance. Remember what it is all about. It is about JESUS.
