"Jesus is my Rock who never moves - if I stand on Him, I will be safe."
I stood on a rock in eastern Canada recently and watched the tide come in. As it receded time after time, I watched it take things with it – “treasures” my kids called them. They scurried around gathering the good ones before the tide could rob them.
My rock never moved.
Later, in prayer, I had a vision of life as I live it – you know the story – Jesus is my Rock Who never moves – if I stand on Him, I will be safe. Nothing can get me.
But in my vision I saw myself moving from The Rock – to pursue “treasures” that so easily ebb away; they slip through my hands like the grains of sand that cover them. “I’ll fix that, I said. I’ll just bring them to The Rock with me.” And so I did, one by one. Only it was never enough, I had to have more, and so I kept bringing more treasures to The Rock until there was no room for me to stand on it.
There’s only so much room on a rock, you know? And while our Rock is infinite, the Holy Spirit whispered to me that there’s only room on The Rock for the things that really matter. Anything else just makes you slip and fall.
